The Employers Council of Mendocino County (ECMC) is incorporated in California as a private non-profit trade association, and is recognized as a 501(c)6 tax exempt corporation by the Internal Revenue Service.
The Mission of ECMC is –
To inform and persuade local governments at all levels and our communities that allowing the private employer community to function with reasonable local government financial and regulatory burdens benefits the overall community through the creation of jobs, family incomes and tax base to support local services.
Around 200 businesses in Mendocino County that employ around 3000 county residents are members of ECMC. General Membership meetings occur quarterly, usually with guest speakers and informational presentations. The Annual Meeting occurs in April of every year.
ECMC is governed by a nine person Board of Directors that meets about 10 times a year.
ECMC has two standing committees:
- Policy Committee: The Policy Committee identifies and studies issues of concern to ECMC and develops recommendations to the ECMC Board regarding significant local public policy issues. The Committee also tracks the activities of local jurisdictions to identify issues of interest to ECMC.
- Water Committee: The Water Committee is charged with developing a strategy, in cooperation with a wide range of other organizations in the community, to propose to the ECMC Board of Directors for a comprehensive water supply and distribution system for Mendocino County that will provide adequate and high quality water for all foreseeable users (homes, businesses, agriculture, industry, environment, recreation, fisheries), that will also provide affordable water for elderly and others on fixed incomes.
An Executive Director manages the "week to week" activities of the Council and represents the Council before numerous public bodies.
ECMC provides a number of services for its members.
